About Romansleigh Community Group

Romansleigh Community Group (RCG) was formed from the Sports and Social Club and Friends of Romansleigh Church.

Both groups had common aims and members so it felt sensible to work as one group, sharing ideas, organising village events, fundraising and working to create an environment which brings our community closer together, supporting one another where needed, especially in a rural parish with a small community spread around the parish.

RCG has defined Terms of Reference and decisions are made by the community for the benefit of the community through a management team made up of residents within the parish.

  • We hold regular open meetings allowing all residents to have a voice in the events we arrange, how we maintain the village environment and how we expend funds raised. We also aim to liaise and support our neighbouring parishes for the benefit of the wider community and we have volunteer promoters linked to Beaford Arts, which aims to bring various ‘art’ events to communities.

  • Organising and holding events requires a lot of input from residents so we try to share the burden as much as possible, accepting some residents can only give limited effort or time due to their circumstances. We are proud in how our community responds in delivering our events, bringing the community together from the annual village Revel to small social groups.

  • Communicating what we do is important and we use different media formats to inform and involve residents, including simple word of mouth.

  • We are fortunate that we have a small range of venues both publicly owned or available from generous property owners, which allows us to consider and access a wide range of cultural events.

  • We are limited only by our imaginations, commitment and ability to deliver.
